• Applicants for this position will be expected to be responsible for planning and coordinating laboratory support, managing and supervising personnel, laboratory testing, quality control, and other operational activities of a clinical laboratory, in vitro malaria culture laboratory, molecular laboratory, and malaria microscopists to support the department’s clinical trials mission. 
• Prior research experience in the field of malaria with an emphasis on in vitro malaria culture is a must. 
• Applicants are expected to be qualified malaria microscopists.  In addition, applicants are expected to have performed and be familiar with current molecular techniques, such as nucleic acid isolation and real-time PCR. 
• Prior clinical field research experience is a plus.  Prior clinical laboratory experience in a hospital setting is also a plus.  This position will require the applicant to coordinate laboratory support between multiple AFRIMS field sites in the country of Cambodia and with their counterpart in the main laboratory located in AFRIMS-Bangkok. Applicants can expect to travel between AFRIMS offices in Phnom Penh and AFRIMS field sites on a regular basis. 

Job Requirements

• Qualified applicants must possess a Medical Technologist (MT) degree and an M.S. degree from an accredited university with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience or possess a B.S. degree in Medical Technology with 10 or more years of post-graduate experience.  Applicants with a professional level degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) and 2 years of post-graduate experience will also be considered. 
• Level 4 (fluent) speaking, reading, and writing English and Khmer are required applicant must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and excellent knowledge of word processing, computer software, and other management tools are required.  Ability to speak Thai conversationally is a plus, but not required.
